Gen Con 2023 has come and gone, and while we’re all still basking in (read: recovering from) the experience, we thought we would memorialize our Top 10 favorite things about the Con before those memories slip off into the ether.
- Crowds. Gen Con was PACKED. If we needed more proof that the pandemic is in our rearview mirror, the crowds at Gen Con provided it. Crowds are BACK.
- Gaming Stories. Here’s to all the customers who came to the booth and shared a story from their campaign. From the DM who found ways to create deeper character connections to Prismeer, to the GM who was ready to immerse their characters in the city of Absalom, there’s nothing like trading stories about how to improve our games.
- Faster, Purple Worm! Kill! Kill! The first-ever Gen Con live performance (there will be more) was electric. The audience in that ballroom blew us away with their energy and commitment to the participatory nature of the show. Huge props to WizKids for providing some amazing raffle prizes!
- Community. So many opportunities to meet up with collaborators and folk who have supported us since our launch. This TTRPG community is special.
- Friends. It might not show on hour 8 of booth building in a steamy exhibitor hall, but getting to work with committed friends all weekend is always a plus.
- Dice. Our Character Class Dice continue to be a hot ticket, and the real dice aficionados came out to ogle and snag our 5-year Anniversary Limited Edition Rogue and Barbarian dice sets.
- Encounter Cards. We finally showed off two out of the four sets of our new D&D Encounter Cards. All-new artwork on the front, and stats and new B&G Tactical Tips on the back. Tactical Tips are combat hints for the DM provided in collaboration with award-winning monster combat blogger Keith Ammann. More information to come soon!
- Play-Testing. Our first time with a game to play test, and it was a blast! These gamers know games, and their feedback was invaluable! More info to come next month on our new game launch!
- Bigger Booth. We increased the size of our booth this year, allowing us to stage a spread of our Spelljammer Platinum Edition and we loved how many attendees stopped in their tracks. Matthew continues to think it's ridiculous how much is in that box.
- Family. This was the first Gen Con where some of our children were able to attend and help us out at our booth. Huge bonus when you can attend a Con and still have some quality time with the kids.
We always walk away feeling like we should’ve attended more events. Should’ve met more people. Should’ve worked Matthew harder.
There’s always next year.
Love,
Beadle & Grimm's
