First, thank you to everyone who supported our current Kickstarter for Faster, Purple Worm! Everybody Dies, Vol. 1! It's always amazing satisfying when we put something out in the world and people responed with support - it makes doing this job so incredibly rewarding.
But one of the particularly challenging things about planning and launching a Kickstarter Campaign is setting the funding levels for Stretch Goals. Stretch Goals are supposed to be fun perks that backers get when we reach key funding goals - a way of sharing success back with the people who made it happen.
In the case Faster, Purple Worm!, we knew that since the book itself isn't very expensive, it would be a challenge to reach some of the big funding numbers you see on Kickstarter for campaigns that include multiple books or a variety of items. So we came into this Kickstarter campaign with modest expectations and set our Stretch Goals accordingly.
Well, as is often the case - we were wrong! We hit our funding goal in the first hour and blew by our first Stretch Goal shortly after that - and then our SECOND Stretch Goal in quick succession. And it didn't take long to hit that third Stretch Goal after, and then we were left with wondering: what do we do now?
Now we did recognize that there was a good chance we'd hit our Stretch Goals and need to come up with more things to put out there as goals, but we thought we would have a week or so to figure out what those would be and when to add them. What we didn't expect was that we'd need to add them on the second day of the campaign!
So the first step was to come up with additional ideas for things to offer, and then we had to figure out what the new funding goals would be. And picking those goals while pledges continued to come in was particularly challenging, since every time we picked a new target we passed it.
Luckily we have great partners and friends who offered to chip in and provide additional items to offer, letting us create new stretch goals. So hop over to Kickstarter see what's been added!
